Eli's Big Loss!

Today was so very exciting for our dear, sweet, second born angel....you all know him as Elijah! He FINALLY lost his very first tooth. This has been quite an ordeal at our house for the past several weeks. You see, we had a visit with Elijah's dentist a few weeks ago, and he said that if Eli couldn't get them out.....then Dr. Mike had to pull them out, yikes!! Elijah already has the two grown-up teeth through and in place....except those stubborn baby teeth didn't want to budge. So, after many nervous nights and lots of wiggling he finally pulled one free. We were just about ready to go to church when I heard him calling from upstair, "Mommy..it's out, it's out!" His tooth chest has been under his pillow since about 9am this morning..let's hope the "tooth fairy" doesn't forget!

Cheap Saturday Fun....Grabinski Style

Saturdays are pretty special at our house. Not that we always do something extravegant, because we rarely do...but because we get to spend the whole day together, just us Grabinski's! Michael had promised the kids that we would go check out the flooded areas around town today. They thought this was practically the coolest thing ever, so we headed out just before lunch to try to find some good spots. Our initial plan was to see the part of Little Rock Lake that had flooded, but after some nasty minimum maitenance roads we decided to turn around and head back to civilization. Ava by this time was complaining that she was "starving to death." Mind you that she had been snacking on crackers the entire trip thus far, which was MAYBE a half an hour! So, we decided to stop at Rumor's in Rice. I have never been to Rumor's and may not be again any time soon. It was pretty much just a small town bar/grill, which doesn't see many kids in my opinion. Anyway...this turned out to be probably the best part of the day for Jack, Eli, and Ava. There was a dart machine right next to our table. Those three threw darts for at least an hour....which was free since we never put any money in to keep track:) Elijah didn't even want to leave, he was trying to give Mommy pointers as to how to hold the dart to get a better throw!! Ava didn't bother throwing them however, she just crawled right up to the machine and stuck them where she thought they looked best...what a riot!!

After darts were finally done, we loaded back into the van to try and find some fun water to look at. We took the river road home and were amazed at how high the water was in most spots. Of course, it was only interesting to the kids if there had been some sort of casualty...like a tree, swingset, or part of the house. Well, mother nature did not disappoint because there were areas just south of the dam where yards, swingsets and fences were underwater.....finally some action!!! We stopped and let the kids take a look at the dam in Sartell, they thought it was pretty neat! Mommy got out with Tessa and walked upon a scene that she would much rather forget. There was a father there with his little son, like maybe 2 or 3 years old. Well, when the dad wasn't looking the little boy walked around the barrier to the other side of the gate. He was literally just a couple feet from the edge of the roaring rapids...it was enough to make Mommy's heart stop. Thankfully the dad stayed calmed enough and hoisted the little boy up by his hood.....gotta always keep an eye on those little ones!!!

We headed home now and are just enjoying a relaxing afternoon....oh and Jack is practicing his moves on the skateboard. Did I mention for you all to keep an eye out for him on the professional circuit someday...it's his dream!!

The evening ended with Michael and the three older ones roasting marshmallows over the campfire in our backyard. This is something that the kids really love doing with their Daddy. Mommy also enjoys campfires, but to be honest, she gets much to nervous with Tessa near the fire. There isn't much better than the smell of a fresh campfire and some good ole family fun!!! Praise the Lord for Saturdays!

A very sick little baby named Stellan

I have been following the blog "my charming kids" for some time now. The woman is a wonderful Christian person who leans completely and whole-heartedly on the Lord. When she was pregnant with her 4th baby, the Dr.'s told her he would not survive because of a fatal heart condition. Well, the Lord healed their baby and he was born happy and healthy. However, in the past several days he has once again been having difficulties with his heart and has been in the hospital. It is sad and uplifting at the same time to follow this story. She is obviously overwhelmed and frightened for her sweet baby, but at the same time knows that God is ultimately in control and is holding her precious little one. I thought I would post a link on my blog if anyone wants to pray for him, or just wants to read a little bit about it. I have been praying for all of them. Having many small children myself, it is so hard to imagine having to watch your baby go through this difficult time.

THE SKATE RAMP

Saturday was Michael's first day of a two week break from school. This is such a treat for all of us, since his school work typically consumes most of his weekend time. So, today while Mommy took Ava to have her pictures taken, Daddy took the other three to pick up a couple of "supplies." He had been promising the boys that he would help them build a real skateboarding ramp...and today was the day. Jack and Elijah were so excited to have a project planned with Daddy, they could hardly wait to get it started. Mommy and Ava got home, we had a quick lunch, and they were off. The first step was to cut the wood and do the actual building part of the project. This took them a couple hours, but they didn't seem to mind one bit. Daddy then let them take a few practice runs on it to see if it worked....it did!! Next, it came into the house for the final paint. Oh boy, let me tell you that my kids can paint with the best of them. If anyone who reads this doesn't know Michael, I should let you know that he is quite the artist himself. So, all of our children have inherited his creative gene to some extent. They started with a green ramp, which quickly changed to green with red primitive type people on it, which then changed to yellow.......whew! Mommy was only allowed downstairs to take a couple of pictures, then I was shuttled back upstairs to make sure Tessa kept her little fingers out of the goo!! At one point, Michael had to send Ava up for a tub since she became bored with painting the ramp, and decided that painting her face would be much more fun. Ha...it was quite the sight!
They all finished when Mommy became to hungry to delay dinner for one more minute!! It was dry by morning and they have been playing on it ever since they got home from church. I love these family projects, they really create some lasting memories that I will cherish forever!!

My bag lady

Recently, our sweet little Tessa has started having an infatuation with all things "dress-up." It is so funny, she will go to her closet and insist on sporting a summer dress, or something from Ava's side. Today I had already dressed her in a cute little sweatsuit when she decided that it needed some accessories! She went and got a jumper from Ava's clothes, her spring jacket, a tutu and some pretty awesome shades!! She would not be satisfied until every article of clothing was on her and fitting just so. I forget how old she is sometimes, and that she TRULY ENJOYS dressing up in pretend play. She strutted her stuff all around the house, posing quite nicely for some pictures. She brings such joy into our lives...I pray for her to continue to be my sweet, bag lady, Tessa!!

Our 5 Star Hotel

Well, this was spring break week for our boys. With Daddy in school and Mommy having full-time daycare (3 extra all week) there was no hope for us to enjoy time away from the house. Well, my creative kids decided to take matters into their own hands and create their own, unique, getaway experience right in our own living room. To be honest, I think they had every single chair, cushion, pillow, and blanket in our entire house in a 12 by 19 room (including the bench from our dining room table.) They spent at least 2 hours creating this masterpiece which included a bedroom for each child, cozy as they may be! Our dear little Tessa even enjoyed some time in her room, although she quickly became bored and sick of trying to squeeze past everyone:) Sometimes I wish that I had the imagination of a child, they can do some pretty great things!

Time to say goodbye to the snowmen!

Today, I decided it was time to get rid of all the snowmen. Frankly, I am tired of the snow, and they are a nasty reminder that it isn't quite spring yet. Therefore, I thought I would give our blog a little face-lift as well...make it maybe a bit more cheery!!

Wacky Clothes Day!

This week at the boys school is National Lutheran Schools Week. It is loaded with lots of fun activities for the kids, similar to a spirit week. On Monday they were able to wear their jammies and crazy hair to school. Tuesday was all one color day. Finally today was wacky clothes day. They were so excited to see how "horrible" they could make themselves look. I was laughing so hard all morning at the wonderful outfits the boys put together, including mismatched socks that belong to their beloved mother!! I just had to put this up for all to enjoy.
P.S. The picture underneath is of Tessa, one day she decided to take her shirt off and wear it as pants. It was SO funny and she did it all by herself!!
ENJOY!
