He woke bright and early this morning (big surprise, right?!) and wanted to come downstairs to begin his birthday. It is a tradition at our house that we leave the kids birthday presents out the night before, so they are the first thing they see the morning of their birthday. Jack knew this, so he was anxious to get the green light to head downstairs. We also have started a tradition of birthday breakfast. The lucky birthday boy or girl gets to pick whatever they want for breakfast. Usually on school days, they only get cereal or toast. So, today Jack picked pancakes...which got even his brother out of bed!!! Poor Ava, she slept right through it...but we saved he plenty so she was happy!
It was a little difficult to decide on his gift this year, since everything was either incredibly expensive, or incredibly impractical!!! He really want Heely's, which are shoes with wheels in them. However, after we talked to a bunch of parents they said "don't do it!" Apparently all their kids get in trouble for using them everywhere they go, so what's the point then!
We decided on a couple of used Wii games for Jack. Although they don't get to play that often, he has really wanted a trick biking or skateboarding game since we got the console. Michael happened to find a couple at Gamestop, so we were set! Jack was very happy with his gifts and is eager to give them a try!
The rest of his birthday will be very busy and exciting. We are all off to St. Cloud State tonight to kick off the Earth Day festivities. Jack, Elijah and Ava will all be running in the kids 1K race. Then we get to cheer on Auntie and Uncle Brett as they do the 5K. Mommy is running the 1/2 marathon in the morning and the kids and Michael will all be there to cheer me on along the way(I need the encouragement!)
